Asia Pacific leaders to focus on building smart economies

Connect Asia-Pacific Summit meets in Bangkok, 18 November 2013

Geneva, 4 September 2013 – The ITU Connect Asia Pacific Summit will take place in Bangkok on 18 November 2013. The Summit will be held prior to ITU Telecom World 2013 that will be held 19-22 November at the IMPACT Centre, Bangkok, Thailand.

The Connect Asia Pacific Summit presents a timely opportunity to share views on the digital challenges and opportunities facing the region and pave the way forward for investments in telecommunications/ICT infrastructure, innovative and creative ICT applications and services, and the transition towards the Vision of a Smartly Digital Asia-Pacific Region by 2020.

The Summit will feature high-level interactive discussions to address the challenges faced by the Asian and Pacific region and efforts to harness the full potential of ICTs to seek possible outcomes and strategies along with significant investments for the roll out of ICT infrastructure and applications.

Previous Connect Summits took place in Africa (Kigali, Rwanda 2007); CIS (Minsk, Belarus 2009); Arab States (Doha, Qatar 2012); and Connect Americas (Panama City, 2012).

Why: 

The Connect Asia-Pacific Summit, organized by ITU in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), aims to define policies and encourage significant financial investment that will harness the potential of ICTs to stimulate economic growth and prosperity in the region.
