FAQs

SIMv1 and SIMv2 for SNMP all rely on ASN.1 MACROs which were removed in all versions of ASN.1 after 1988. Can the ASN.1:1988 standard be used to write a proper parser for SIMv1 and SIMv2?

CCITT Recommendations X.208 and X.209 were both withdrawn in 2002.

CCITT Recommendation X.208 was withdrawn on 30 October 2002 and superseded by Recommendations ITU-T X.680-683. All known defects in X.208 were corrected in Recommendations ITU-T X.680-683 (1993) further revised in 1997, 2002, and 2008. If you are a protocol designer creating a new ASN.1 notation, it is recommended that you use the 2008 version of ASN.1 as defined in Recommendations ITU-T X.680-X.683 (2008) instead of using CCITT Recommendation X.208. For further information, please see "Changing from ASN.1:1988 to ASN.1:2002" on the ITU-T Study Group 17 web page.

CCITT Recommendation X.209 was withdrawn on 30 October 2002 and superseded by Recommendation ITU-T X.690. All known defects in X.209 were corrected in Recommendation ITU-T X.690 (1993) further revised in 1997 and 2002. If you are a protocol designer creating a new ASN.1 notation, it is recommended that you use the 2002 version of ASN.1 encoding rules as defined in Recommendations ITU-T X.690-X.693 (2002) instead of using CCITT Recommendation X.209. For further information, please see "Changing from ASN.1:1988 to ASN.1:2002" on the ITU-T Study Group 17 web page.
