Summary: The purpose of these new work items is to look at standardisation issues in applying IoT in mobile networks of developing countries. It is anticipation that that standardization of IoT will have an impact in the deployment/implementation of such services in developing countries. This is in view of the obtaining conditions in most developing countries more especially awareness on existing standards, current network conditions, future requirements and available terminal equipment. The tasks of Q5/13 on the work on IoT for developing countries will include, but are not limited to: • Prepare a document summarizing the specific requirements for IoT in respect of mobile networks for use by mainly developing countries. • Review the approved ITU-T recommendations and standards for IoT and establish their requirements on mobile networks of developing countries. • Examine the readiness of especially mobile networks and terminal equipment in developing countries for the implementation of IoT. • Articulate the benefits of implementation of Cloud Computing and IoT in developing countries • Collect and analyse the existing and planned implementation scenarios of IoT in developing countries • Prepare a document; Recommendation/Supplement/Handbook as the case may be to summarise the output of the analysis of the status of IoT in developing countries in terms of infrastructure requirement, customer needs, standardisation requirements and capacity if any. • Determine the priority areas for IoT for developing countries.
