The Continua Design Guidelines uses/generates the IHE Technical Framework for use with both its Health Reporting Network (HRN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) interfaces. This document, the IHE Patient Care Device Technical Framework (IHE PCD TF), defines specific implementations of established standards to achieve integration goals for the Patient Care Device domain. Such integration promotes appropriate sharing of medical information to support optimal patient care.

Specification approved 15 August 2006, and many certified devices implementing this version of the specification exist. Even though this s titled a "trial implementation" it defines specific configuration and parameters necessary for interoperable operation of devices.
