27 January 2012, Geneva, Switzerland

ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun Touré has been appointed Patron of the Global CyberLympics, an international ethical hacking team championships, which will be held this year in March 2012 in Virginia, USA.

Created by the EC-Council, the Global CyberLympics comprises a series of ethical hacking games involving both offensive and defensive security challenges. The top eight teams, which will qualify through a series of regional competitions in Budapest, Dubai, Miami and Kuala Lumpur, will vie for the world championship title. The purpose of the competition is to establish effective cybersecurity partnerships across borders.

“I look forward to contributing to the success of this initiative,” said Dr Touré. “The achievement of global cyberpeace must be a key objective of governments, the private sector and the international community.”
