  Message from ITU Secretary-General

27 January 2011, Geneva, Switzerland

It was a great honour to stand alongside UN Secretary-General
Mr Ban Ki-moon, Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada, President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, and WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan to launch the new Commission on Information and Accountability for Women’s and Children’s Health yesterday.

The Commission represents an important step forwards in realizing the UN SG’s declared goal of improving accountability in health care projects worldwide, and is one of the key pillars of his Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s health.

The meeting, held at WHO headquarters, welcomed renowned health experts from around the world. We’re now working on researching and preparing the Commission’s outcome report, which will be delivered at its second and final meeting in May this year.
