13-14 September 2010, Poland

I visited Poland for an official visit on 13 and 14 September to hold a series of meetings with key officials from the Polish administration, the private sector and academia. On 14 September I was awarded with an Honorary Doctorate by the Technical University of Wroclaw.

13 September, Warsaw
It was a pleasure to meet Mr Piotr Kolodziejczyk, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, in order to discuss progress in the development of the Information Society in Poland and the possible involvement of Poland in global initiatives such as the Global Cybersecurity Agenda, IMPACT, and WSIS. Afterwards we had a very productive meeting with key industry players, and I had an official meeting with HE Cezary Grabarczyk, Poland’s Minister of Infrastructure and Ms Magdalena Gaj, Deputy Minister responsible for telecommunications. We took this opportunity to discuss the Polish approach towards broadband development.

14 September, Wroclaw
On 14 September, the Senate of the Wrocław University of Technology conferred on me the degree honoris causa in acknowledgment of the outstanding achievements in telecommunication, in building a foundation for the global community based on knowledge and scientific progress, especially in the developing countries, as well as for active cooperation with the Polish administration, and particularly with the Wrocław University of Technology.
