Message from ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun I. Touré on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2010 |

It was a pleasure and an honour to participate in a number of activities relating to Expo 2010 in China, and of course to visit Expo 2010 itself.
ITU played a very active role in the ICT and Urban Development Forum which was held in Ningbo on the weekend of 15/16 May 2010, with interventions from myself as well as the ITU Deputy Secretary-General, Houlin Zhao, and the Chief of Strategic Planning and Membership, Doreen Bogdan.
Monday 17 May was declared as ITU Honour Day, and it was indeed an honour to be present for the flag-raising ceremony. We also celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day in Shanghai on 17 May, and gave WTISD Awards for 2010 to three eminent personalities who have contributed to the ongoing digital revolution, in recognition of their dedication to promoting ICTs as a means of providing a better life for humanity.
