How do I reserve a UIN?

You must reserve your numbers through a Recognised Operating Agency (ROA), a full list of which can be found on our web site under the option "Service provider contact".

How can I check to see if a certain UIN belongs to one of my customers. You can check the database on our web site, where you will be informed when it was reserved and by which ROA.
How long will it take for my UIN to be active?

A UIN will be allocated to you 3 working days after receipt of a request from the ROA . Then it is up to the ROA to activate the number

If I reserve a batch of numbers, do I get a discount? No, the one-time application fee of CHF 200 is per number, irrespective of how many are reserved.
How much does it cost to service a UIN?

The ITU only acts as Registrar for UINs. This a question you should direct to your chosen ROA.

What is the difference between a proposed and reserved UIN? A reserved number is one that is permanently reserved for the customer; I.e. the request was valid and the number requested was available. A proposed number is a number we have suggested for a customer, either because the requested number is not available, or no specific number was requested. A proposed number will be permanently reserved after seven (7) working days, if we have not received any response to the proposed annex

How do we notify the ITU that a UIN is to be transferred from another carrier? You should send us a fully completed New request form with the Change box clearly marked. Then on the "Reason for Change" line you should state that the UIN is to be transferred from XX ROA to XX ROA. Please include a date of activation, and a valid Coordination (reference) Number.

Does the customer have to pay the ITU to transfer their number to another carrier? No. The ITU only charges a one-time application fee per UIN
Is there a UIN Directory?

No

What documents are required by the ITU to effect the transfer of a UIN? We require a Change Notice (I.e. New Request form with Change box clearly marked) with the date of activation and a valid Coordination (reference) Number, together with a duly completed and signed "UIN Service Provider Change Authorization and Designation of Agency" form.

How do we register as a Secondary Operator? You should send us a Multiple ROA form with the correct UIN, customer name and address, a unique Co-ordination (reference) Number and a valid date of activation.
Can I transfer my UIN to another carrier?

You may transfer your UIN whenever you like, as many times as you find necessary.

How do we cancel a number? You should send the original New Request form, with the Cancel box clearly marked. The UIN concerned is immediately available for another customer

How do we Disconnect a number? You should send the original New Request form, with the Disconnect box clearly marked, and the date of Disconnection on the Reason for Change line. If a date is omitted, the UIN will be disconnected with the date of receipt of the form. The UIN will stay in the "waiting period" for 180 days before it is released.
How do I find an ROA to service my numbers?

You can find the list of current ROAs on our web site. They are listed by country, and you may choose any ROA you like to service your number(s)
How can I become an ROA?

You should apply to your local authority for this status.

Can you give us a block of numbers? You may request a sequence of numbers, and if available, they will be reserved. Each number should be on a separate New Request form, with its own unique Coordination (reference) Number.
Do we have to be a member of the ITU to apply for a UIN?

No, but only a ROA can apply direct to the ITU for any of the UINs.

How exactly do the disconnected numbers work? Once a UIN is disconnected, it will remain in the 180-day waiting period and then be automatically released back into the pool.

Can we reserve a disconnected number for a different customer? If a request is made for a disconnected number it can be available after 90 days from the date of disconnection.

Why am I charged for a UIFN call when I use my mobile? Unfortunately some mobile companies will charge for Freephone numbers. You should contact your local Administration to find out if any Mobile Operators do allow this service free.
Can I check if a UIN is available? Can I check if a UIN is available? On our web site under "UIN Database Search"
Why do I get a blank page when checking availability of UINs? Why do I get a blank page when checking availability of UINs? This may be due to your browser, or a temporary fault with the network.
