Dr. Friedbert Berens is the general manager and founder of FBConsulting Sarl, a small consulting company located in Luxembourg with the main focus on standardization and regulation support. Dr. Berens has more than 20 years of experience in the field of wireless communications (ranging from 3G over 4G to UWB) and the related standardization and regulation activities in Europe and world-wide. He worked at the Centre for Microelectronics at the University of Kaiserslautern and was Senior Principal Engineer at STMicroelectronis in Geneva, Switzerland, responsible for enhance wireless research and standardization.
In 2008 he created his own consulting company working in the domain of regulation, standardization and EU research project acquisition and management with a focus on short range devices including UWB, RFID and ITS for Machine-to-Machine communication covering cross layer aspects from the physical layer to the application layer. As part of these activities he is actively participating in the ETSI M2M and oneM2M PP service layer standardization. He was member and leader of several ETSI STFs in the field of short-range devices and especially cooperative ITS systems. Since 2011 he participates in the EU FP7 IoT service layer platform project BUTLER (http://www.iot-butler.eu).
