Symposium on ICTs, Environment & Climate Change – From the New Climate Agreement to the New Urban Agenda
Nassau, The Bahamas, 14 December 2015
Introduction
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), including satellites, mobile phones, sensors (etc.), can play a major role in addressing climate change and other environmental challenges. Through transformative and innovative solutions, ICTs can help monitor climate change, mitigate and adapt to its effects and accordingly assist in the intelligent transitioning to a resource efficient and greener economy.
The main purpose of this Symposium is to raise awareness of the potential ICTs possess to address environmental challenges and to encourage stakeholders to integrate existing and emerging ICT-based solutions into their activities for an overall ‘smarter’ and more holistically ‘sustainable’ future for mankind.
The symposium will also provide a platform to discuss how to leverage ICT from the UNFCCC Paris Climate Agreement to the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development -Habitat III that will take place in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016.
This symposium is jointly organized by ITU and UN-Habitat.
