ITU Workshop on "Building a Sustainable Future Through Green ICT Standards"

Introduction
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized a workshop on “Building a Sustainable Future Through Green ICT Standards” at the kind invitation of the Autorité de Régulation des Communications Electroniques et des Postes (ARCEP) of Burkina Faso.  This event took place at the Hotel Laïco Ouaga, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 15 to 16 (morning) July 2013 .
 
The 4th meeting of the ITU-T Study Group 5 Regional Group for Africa (SG5 RG-AFR) took place immediately after the workshop from 16 (afternoon) to 17 July 2013 followed by a Workshop on Benchmarking QoS Evaluation of Multimedia Networks on 18 July 2013. In addition, the Fifth meeting of ITU-T Study Group 12 Regional Group for Africa took place on 19 July 2013.  These events were also hosted by the ARCEP at the same venue.  
 
Objectives
The workshop aimed at raising awareness of the importance and opportunities of using ICT standards to build a green economy with a special focus in the African region.
 
Target Audience
This workshop included the participation of leading specialists in the field, from top policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts and others.
