1st Forum on Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things in Smart Sustainable Cities in Latin America

Introduction     
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Ministry of Modernization, Argentina, together with UNESCO, ECLAC, UNIDO, CITEL, COMTELCA and Asiet  organized the 1st Forum on Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things in Smart Sustainable Cities in Latin America​, from 29 to 30 May 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

An Information Session on “Exploring the Role of Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Linking AI and IoT in Smart Cities” and their participation in ITU-T Study Groups was organized by ITU on 30 May from 09.30 to 11.30 a.m. ​
   
The forum and the information session were held in English and Spanish.

Objectives
The combination of high-speed, resilient, low-latency connectivity and technologies such as distributed computing, the IoT, machine learning and artificial intelligence is enabling the transformation towards smarter and more sustainable cities. This forum provided a platform to discuss the role of artificial intelligence and IoT to shape smarter and more sustainable cities and to address urban challenges, with the final goal of improving the quality of life of people.

Target Audience
The forum brought together leading specialists in the field, from city planners to engineers, designers, policy-makers, government officials, regulators, academia, industry and standards experts.
