Measuring Broadband in SADC Workshop

The Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) in coordination with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) conducted the Workshop on Measuring Broadband in SADC. The workshop was hosted by the Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) in Gaborone, Botswana  on 24 November 2016.

The aim of the workshop was to bring awareness to experts responsible for ICT Statistics on the directive of the SADC Ministers with regards to the broadband roll out and usage targets in the sub-region and to give guidance to the SADC Member States on how to collect and report data on broadband adoption and usage.

The workshop provided extensive discussions on the definitions and methodologies of ITU’s administrative and household ICT indicators, as well as practical considerations of data collection and submission to ITU. It also provided actionable guidance to members on how to improve the availability of broadband statistics in member countries.
