ITU-D Regional Economic and Financial Forum of Telecommunications/ICTs for Africa - Sao Tomé and Principe 2-3 February 2015

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Economic and Financial Forum of Telecommunications/ICTs for Africa (REFF-AFR) organized by the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) in collaboration with the General Regulatory Authority (AGER) of Sao Tomé and Principe, was held at the Hotel Praia Lagarto, Sao Tomé, from 2 February to 3 (morning) February 2015.

A meeting of the Study Group 3 Regional Group for Africa (SG3RG-AFR) organized by the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) followed the Forum from 3 (afternoon) to 5 February 2015.

Le Forum régional de l’Union internationale des télécommunications (UIT) sur les aspects économiques et financiers des télécommunications/TICs pour l'Afrique, organisé par le Bureau de développement des télécommunications (BDT) de l’UIT en collaboration avec l’Autorité générale de régulation de Sao Tomé et Principe (AGER) a eu lieu à l’Hôtel Praia Lagarto, Sao Tomé, du 2 au 3 (matin) février 2015.

La réunion du Groupe régional de la Commission d'études 3 pour l'Afrique (SG3RG-AFR), organisée par le Bureau de la normalisation des télécommunications (TSB) a suivi le Forum du 3 (après-midi) au 5 février 2015.

Purpose

The Forum focused among other interesting subjects on Mobile Money (MM) services; Relevant Market definition and identification of operators with SMP; Broadband services costing and pricing; Universal service and access for Broadband; price regulation of unbundled services; and International Mobile Roaming, by focusing on the regulatory, economic and financial aspects.

The Regional Economic and Financial Forum of Telecommunication/ICT for Africa counted with the participation of 72 delegates from 22 countries, including Ministries, National Regulatory Authorities, Operators, Academia, Industry and invited experts. It counted also with the participation of African Telecommunications Union (ATU), Union Economique et Monétaire Ouest Africaine (UEMOA), Associação de Reguladores de Comunicações e Telecomunicações da Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (ARCTEL-CPLP) and the Ecole Supérieure Multinationales des Télécommunications (ESMT).
