ABOUT

A three-day regional event on Cybersecurity for the Americas Region, was organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT). The first 1.5 days are dedicated to a cyberdrill exercise consisting of a cyberattack simulation in a controlled environment, and the third day is dedicated to a workshop on current Cybersecurity issues. The Cyberdrill was held on 8, 9, and 10 September 2014 in Lima, Peru, at the kind invitation of INICTEL UNI.

PURPOSE

This simulation was build step by step the collective effort against Cyber threats through National Computer Incident Response Teams (CIRT) and enhanced the communication and participating teams’ incident response capabilities. The workshop was the meeting point to create a platform for cooperation, sharing knowledge, and discussion on Cyber security issues. The cyber drill exercise was based on a fictitious scenario to gauge the CERT incident handling capability. The exercise is structured around a scenario that included several incidents involving the most common types of attacks.

CERTs of the Region’s Member States, Staff of telecommunication administrations, regulatory authorities, regional organizations, sector members and special guests from America’s region: Argentina, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Brazil, Barbados, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cuba, Belize, Dominican Rep., Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Grenada, Haiti, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Peru, Paraguay, Panama, Nicaragua, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
