Australia is among the six recipients receiving the first ITU Humanitarian Awards in recognition of commitment and consistent leadership in supporting the use of telecommunications to save lives during emergencies. On 23rd November 2012, Mr. Brahima Sanou, Director, ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, presented the award in person to the Senator the Hon. Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Australia, in Canberra, Australia.
