Current implementations of the ITU-T Rec. T.800 | ISO/IEC 15444-1 reference software, as provided by ITU-T Rec. T.804 | ISO/IEC 15444-5, predate the publication of the reference test streams. It is also noted that the available reference software is no longer aligned with the current version of the JPEG 2000 suite of specifications. This may seriously limit the quality of the JPEG 2000 standard, especially for ongoing co-operation with other bodies in the testing, evaluation and application of the specification.
Amendment 2 to ITU-T T.804 (2002) | ISO/IEC 15444-4 addresses this limitation by adding a new reference software for ITU-T Rec. T.800 | ISO/IEC 15444-1, referred to as the OpenJPEG library.
