Summary

Recommendation ITU-T J.195.3 describes the media access control (MAC) layer specification of high performance network over coax (HiNoC) for high speed data transmission over coaxial cable. The HiNoC architecture consists of a HiNoC bridge (HB) and HiNoC modems (HMs), and the HiNoC protocol stack includes the MAC layer and physical (PHY) layer. HiNoC utilizes the unassigned spectrum of the "last 100-meter" coaxial network to provide more bandwidth and improve spectral efficiency. HiNoC uses time division duplexing (TDD) and time division multiple access (TDMA) to dynamically adjust upstream and downstream bandwidth. The HiNoC MAC (HiMAC) layer is composed of the convergence sublayer (CS), the common part sublayer (CPS), and the security sublayer (SS). This document contains descriptions for HiMAC frame types, functions and mechanisms of CS and CPS.
