Summary

There are a variety of applications and
services which are utilizing identification of objects and providing
identification services to intended users. But every identification application
and service cannot be considered as tag-based identification applications and
services which incorporate three mandatory functional elements: identifier, identification
(ID) tag and ID terminal. Tag-based identification systems and functions are
required to be developed to deploy tag-based identification applications and
services. Typical tag-based identification systems are ID terminals, identifier
resolution systems, object identifier (OID) resolution systems,
application-specific OID resolution systems and service broker. The tag-based
identification functions running at the tag-based identification systems are
incorporating various standards of which implementations are required to be verified
for conformance and interoperability. This Recommendation identifies target
systems and functions to be tested and specifies a model network of testing for
their conformance and interoperability.

Recommendation ITU-T Q.3931.2 describes
the subsystem configurations and benchmarks to establish a performance
benchmark for an initial release of a PSTN/ISDN emulation subsystem (PES).
The same tests can be used also for legacy PSTN/ISDN networks or for interworking
tests between a PSTN/ISDN emulation subsystem and legacy PSTN and ISDN. The metrics measured and reported are
for performance of this subsystem under a communications application load. This
Recommendation covers "Part 2, Subsystem Configurations and
Benchmarks", the second of the four performance aspects.

This Recommendation specifies the Resource
Connection Initiation Protocol (RCIP) for use to carry resource control
requests and responses between Transport Resource Control physical entities
within the same domain. This protocol is designed to be able to support
signalling along a chain of control elements in an operator's network for a
collection of most commonly used QoS models and requirements, including (but
not limited to) traffic specification, priority, MPLS labels and Virtual
Switching connection information. A multimedia service call traversing the
network, which comprises one or more sessions (each having
application/user-specific QoS specification), will get desired QoS treatment in
the data plane (i.e. the chain of Transport physical entities), through
appropriate configuration of the Transport physical entities by the Transport
Resource Control physical entities.

Recommendation ITU-T Q.3312 describes the
use of access node control protocol (ANCP) on the Rp interface. It defines
the associated signalling architecture, specifies the signalling flows
required to support combined unicast and multicast admission control. It also
specifies profiles of the ANCP and resource connection initiation protocol (RCIP),
Recommendation ITU-T Q.3322, required for this task. Interworking between
RCIP and ANCP is also specified in this Recommendation.
