The African Internet and Telecom Summit will bring together representatives from all  African countries to focus on the key challenges and opportunities the Internet poses for telecommunication policy-makers and operators in the region.

The Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization and the International Telecommunication Union are jointly organizing the summit. The host of the summit is the Gambia Telecommunications Company Limited.

The conference is intended for senior personnel who have responsibility for Internet policy and operation in their countries in Africa – ministries of communications, regulatory bodies, telecommunications operating companies and Internet service businesses.  This Pan-African summit provides a major opportunity to share experience about current developments and future plans for Internet on the continent with colleagues from other countries and with leading experts from the Internet, telecommunications and development communities.

“My Government wholeheartedly endorses the initiative taken by the CTO and ITU in organising this important Conference and sees it as a major opportunity for African states to realise some of the immense benefits available from bridging the 'digital divide'.  Internet and IP networks are already revolutionising the delivery of information services and businesses in many countries, and will make a major contribution to business, social and economic development throughout Africa during the next decade.  The Conference will provide a major opportunity to share experience about current developments and future plans on Internet development on the continent.”
