Geneva, Switzerland
Hosted by Switzerland
Switzerland presented the winning bid for ITU TELECOM WORLD 2009 – WORLD 2009 is
back again in Geneva, hosted by this pristine country in the heart of Europe.
Geneva
Second largest city in Switzerland, after Zurich, Geneva is located in the
French-speaking Romandy region, on the Southern tip of Lake Geneva. Coined as
the smallest of the big cities, Geneva is considered a truly international
center, mainly due to the presence of numerous international organizations,
including the headquarters of many United Nations agencies. It provides
everything a European metropolis can offer without the drawbacks of distance,
traveling time, pollution or chaotic urban planning. Geneva is an increasingly
popular location for business and pleasure, and particularly with favorable
currency exchange rate, many will be touristically tempted to arrive early or
stay on afterwards.
The Geneva International Airport is a multimodal
transportation hub, connecting railways, highway access, and the public
transportation system. The Airport is served by numerous international and local
carriers with direct scheduled flights to some 100 destinations, a 33% increase
in just four years. The airport traffic will increase by 66% until 2020, an
illustration of Geneva’s dynamism. Use of public transportation is extremely
intuitive, and a ticket for free transportation is provided upon arrival in the
luggage claim area. “Geneva Transport Cards” for free travel over the entire
Unireso network are extended when you check-in at your hotel.
