Action-packed week of collaboration & high-level dialogue
ITU TELECOM WORLD 2009 officially opened on
Monday 5 October with participants and delegates from 186
countries. Uniquely positioned to attract top-level
decision-makers representing all major ICT stakeholders, WORLD
2009 featured Heads of State and VIP Programmes with key activities to facilitate
personalised
interaction. A week-long agenda carried participants through to Friday 9
October. With so much happening, we're offering some tips to catch what you
might have missed.

Today's Youth; Tomorrow's Leaders
Some 250 university-aged youth from 135 countries arrived from all corners of the world
for an action-packed week. The renowned ITU TELECOM Youth Forum
which
officially opened on Sunday, serves as
a key
platform for youth around the world to use their voice, share their visions of
the world and live their dreams. These youth came together at WORLD 2009 to strengthen their commitment to ICT and advance their career development.

Strong showfloor presence & pavilions from around the world
Despite the global economic downturn, over 450 exhibitors from 49 countries
welcomed participants to WORLD 2009. Alongside major names and household
brands were 35 pavilions from around the world, including a range of
thematic pavilions which focused on key areas such as Green@ICT,
e-Health, and empowering people with disabilities through ICTs. With high-level decision-makers onsite,
business and governments capitalized on networking opportunities for new trade

ITU TELECOM... coming up 40!
ITU TELECOM is on the eve of its 40th anniversary. To mark this event,
in October 2011 in Geneva, ITU TELECOM will bring together the ICT community for
a dynamic celebration of four decades of serving the ICT sector. The 40th
anniversary celebrations are set to acknowledge: The history of ITU
TELECOM and
its role in global telecommunications; Growth of the ICT sector; and The
importance of global networking and partnerships for global growth. And up
