MEDIA ACCREDITATION PROCEDURE

Applying for media accreditation

Journalists who have already accredited for any ITU event taking place in 2003 need only complete the boxed section of the Media Accreditation Form (providing their contact details remain unaltered). Proof of press credentials is not required.

Journalists who have not been accredited with us this year are requested to complete the entire Form and return it with any one of the following documents:

  • letter of accreditation from the Editor-in-Chief (or the News Editor for radio/TV);
  • a photocopy of their national/international press card valid through to the end of the Event;
  • a recent copy of the page of the publication (list of credits for TV/radio) which provides the names of regular editorial staff and contributors and which lists the journalist seeking accreditation;
  • copies of recently (within the last 6 months) published articles where the journalist is credited.

Journalists invited by exhibitors should note that the Media Accreditation Form still needs to be completed and submitted along with the required credentials.

Eligibility for media accreditation

Any of the following are eligible for media accreditation:
journalists of newspapers/magazines available to the general public, published at least 6 times a year and which generally carry paid advertising;

  • on-line reporters, and freelance journalists;
  • broadcast journalists and their technical support personnel (sound engineers, camera crew, etc.). Such personnel must be named on the Media Accreditation Form by the journalist seeking official accreditation;
  • independent television crews officially mandated by a broadcast station.

More detailed information concerning accreditation and access for broadcast crews and photographers can be found here. Note that we will not accredit personnel from film and video production companies as journalists. Such filming must be authorized by Tom Dahl-Hansen, Deputy Executive Manager, ITU TELECOM.

We consider researchers, technical staff not part of a broadcast crew, management, marketing and advertising executives, etc. as visitors who cannot be granted press credentials

Receiving full media accreditation

Applicants will be notified when their documents have been accepted. Badges can be collected from the on-site Media Centre (Palexpo, Hall 1) as of Monday, 6 October 2003.

We strongly recommend you register prior to the Event in order to avoid unnecessary delays in receiving your press badge or in gaining full access to the venue. Any queries concerning the media accreditation process should be directed to:

Journalists working for on-line publications are eligible for accreditation if the publication:

  • generates original, news-oriented material on which they hold copyright;
  • refreshes content regularly and entirely at least every two months, rather than simply updating pages in the same way as a normal website; and,
  • is provided free-of-charge or at a cost that is commensurate with what readers might pay at a newsstand.
