Services Industriels de Genève, Service Telecom is a major Metro Service Provider located in, and serving, the City and Canton of Geneva. It offers proximity solutions in line with the recognised high standards of SIG's other utility services - electricity, water and gas. With over 180 buildings currently connected to its backbone, SIG's fully owned, secure, fibre network (over 250km currently installed) supports the provision of IRU services based on SDH, DWDM and Ethernet solutions. Clients, including many banks, industries, state and UN Organisations are offered secure building to building networks, with many Telecom Operators using the extensive SIG Network to access their own key clients located in and around Geneva. The key Hosting Centers of Geneva are also fully integrated into SIG's meshed network, providing flexible interconnection between service providers and customers. Latest developments include the piloting of a fibre to the home project (voisin-voisine), concentrated in the Charmilles quarter of Geneva. The pilot provides high bandwidth (10Mb) connectivity to the inhabitants and businesses located in the area.
