cyberCAFE

Hall 2 - Stand no. 2190

The cyberCAFE, located in Hall 2, will comprise several exciting features and offer many different forms of animation. Alongside the "traditional" Internet Café, which will offer full access to the Internet and the Web, there will be a Computer Museum which will allow visitors the chance to see a mythical Cray as well as further examples of the evolution of the computer as we know it. In the Treasure Hunt area, the goal will be to search for hidden treasure on a VRML model of the Exhibition and take home one of the many prizes on offer. Also located in the cyberCAFE will be a Formula One Car where visitors can take on the role of "virtual drivers" and test their skills on a Virtual Reality circuit, all the while seated in an official Williams-Renault car which is powered by Digital Alpha servers.

Another feature of the cyberCAFE is the discussion zone where Forum speakers, delegates and exhibitors will pursue the Forum discussions and enhance their business networking. All of the discussion tables are equipped with PCs and have access to the Internet and Web. In the Poster Session area presentations will be given by invited speakers which will continue and enhance the thread of discussions being held in parallel at the Forum and at which visitors can learn more about the issues at stake in the merging world of communications and information.

The timetable of discussions in the cyberCAFE can be viewed at the reception desk in the cyberCAFE. It is also possible to check out the activities on the screens which can be found in the congress area foyer (in front of rooms A, B and C).

The Internet Seminar Theatre at the cyberCAFE will offer not only a range of lectures on Internet-related issues but also demonstrations on the latest developments, as discussed in the Forum sessions, as well as a preview of the Computer.Animation Film selection for which the visitors will be invited to select the Grand Prix du Public to be awarded during the TELECOM Interactive 97 Forum Closing Session (IS.5) on Sunday 14 September.

The Global Messaging Service (GMS) at TELECOM Interactive 97 (sponsored by Digital and Microsoft) is the state-of-the-art communications system that enables Forum speakers, delegates, VIPs, exhibitors and journalists to stay in touch during the event not only with each other but also with their home-base offices. Users will be able to send and receive electronic mail and faxes via their own e-mail. The GMS can be accessed via some 200 Digital PCs and using Microsoft s Outlook software.

The cyberCAFE has been developed with the sponsorship of the following companies:

The ITU also extends its thanks to the Junior Entreprise of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale in Lausanne (EPFL) for it s support in the development of the cyberCAFE concept and for providing the necessary personnel required for animation.
