Biometric Information Management for Security
Abstract

The OASIS XML Common Biometric Format (XCBF) uses the new X.693 ASN.1 XML Encoding Rules (XER) to define a common set of messages based on the ASN.1 schema in X9.84 "Biometrics Information Management and Security".

A canonical variant of XER (CXER) is used to provide cryptographic enhancements of the two patron formats described in NIST IR 6529, "Common Biometric Exchange File Format (CBEFF)". The processing and security requirements for digitally signed or encrypted biometric objects are specified in X9.96 "XML Cryptographic Message Syntax (XCMS)".

This presentation provides basic information on these standards and their application.
