ITU-T SG 13 and IEEE NGSON will hold a joint workshop on Overlay Networking on 15 May 2009 in Geneva. The workshop constitutes an opportunity for an updated exchange of information between ITU-T SG13 and IEEE NGSON in the perspective of future collaboration on technical matters of mutual interest.

IEEE NGSON will mainly provide an overview of the Next Generation Service Overlay Network (NGSON) framework. The focus will be to describe the capabilities and issues related to the consideration of this framework in service overlay network standardization.

ITU-T SG13 will provide information about current and planned activities for an advanced service infrastructure from both services/capabilities and architecture perspectives.

This workshop will discuss updated exchange of information between ITU-T SG13 and IEEE NGSON on respective ongoing and planned activities in the "Overlay Networking" area, with the view of collaborating on technical aspects of mutual interest.

1. A talk on business vision behind NGSON;
2. A talk on NGSON overview and status of related standards activities;
3. A talk with services and capabilities orientation (led by SG13/WP2); and
4. A talk with architecture orientation (led by SG13/WP3).
