Mr. Dave Acton

Session 2: The Policy Issues - Safety, Security, Privacy and Liability
Title of Presentation: Data Policy

From November of 2000 until March of 2004, Dave Acton was the Director of Global Telematics for General Motors. In that assignment, he and his team helped General Motors develop their global telematics strategy. 

Formerly, he was Chief Vehicle Engineer of OnStar. At OnStar, his group was responsible for launching factory installed telematics products and services. Dave came to OnStar in 1998 from GM’s North American Vehicle Operations where he had been the Director of Electrical Engineering. In this role, he was responsible for advanced electrical/electronics product and process direction for GM, including global harmonization.

Prior to 1997, Dave held a number of assignments in Electrical Engineering, including Chief Electrical Engineer for Cadillac Motor Division, Director of Electrical Engineering for the Luxury Car Group and Director of Electrical Engineering for the Midsize and Luxury Car Groups.

In April of 2004, Dave retired form General Motors and started Charter Mobile Information Inc., a company dedicated to advancing the telematics or “connected vehicle” industry worldwide. 

In January 2005, Dave became a Vice President for Ygomi LLC. Ygomi is an international company working on strategies to improve vehicle safety and utility. They are doing this through the development of advanced vehicle electrical architectures, new vehicle data strategies, and enhanced vehicle communications capabilities. 

In addition to his role for Ygomi LLC, Dave is President of AMI-C (the Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration), a Board member of ITS America, and a Board member of CTEA (the Convergence Transportation Electronics Association).
