Title of Presentation: The countermeasure against two security issues in Korea

Korea has the world best network Infrastructure and about 30 Million internet users. We had suffered internet collapse by slammer worm in 2003.The slammer worm gave us a terrible shock and noticed us the importance of internet security.

Two years later since 2003, I think the Internet Security trend is changing from network security to system/data security.

I will introduce nowadays two security issues in KrCERT/CC, Korea. We are highly concerning about malicious Bot/BotNet and Homepage defacement.

About 100,000 PCs in Korea are compromised and installed Bot agent. The Bot army can be used for many malicious activities. I think it is the biggest potential threat.KrCERT/CC will make a strong countermeasure against Bot/BotNet with Korean ISPs.I will introduce the status of the bot Infection and the countermeasure plan.

Another security issue is the large-scale homepage defacement. About 6,000 Korean web sites were defaced by foreign attacker in January 2005.I will also introduce the result of the incident handling for defaced web servers, and the future countermeasure against homepage defacement.
