Summary: It is a hard fact that with the voluminous increase in use of ICT devices to bridge the digital divide, there is also an alarming growth of e-waste worldwide. Around 20 to 50 million metric tons of e-waste are generated worldwide every year and estimated to be the fastest-growing type of waste. The data for information on e-waste is an estimation and there is a problem in finding information on imports of e-waste. Used EEE from developing countries are exported through an act of "environmental injustice" to the developing nations. So there is a definite need to assess the exact quantification of e-waste generated, imported and recycled in the developing nations. The need for proper data for information on e-waste is extremely important to start corrective actions. So, formulation of method is of priority. The solution for handling e-waste in an environment friendly manner, first requires to assess the actual volume of e-waste. Once the actual quantum is known, implementation strategies of Resolution 79 (WTSA-12) will be practical and achievable, considering the requirement of infrastructure availability and competence. Assessment of quantity of e-waste will reflect towards formation of standard infrastructure and human resource development including training and skill development of the informal sector.
