Motivation

The NGN is in concept a network with a very large service set; practically any services could be supported for users. However, service implementation at operator networks especially based on the network components from different vendors could face a problem of compatibility. Early experience with NGN network component implementations confirms the problem.

Also, service implementation is implemented on different operators' networks in proprietary fashion. A lot of network operators are now realizing that a service with the same name may be implemented within different scenarios, network architecture and specific requirements.

The successful experience in compatibility problem solving for NGN network components suggests the use of a network under test (NUT) procedure and a model network for NGN service testing in accordance with Rec. Q.3900.

Both basic and supplementary services should be tested. In accordance with existing practice services under test could be classified into interactive, streaming and background.

• What types of services could be tested in a model network as described by Rec. Q.3900?
• What model network architecture should be used for services testing?
• What is the list of tests for services in a model network based on Rec. Q.3900?
• What are the testing scenarios for basic call service?
• What are the testing scenarios for interactive services?
• What are the testing scenarios for streaming services?
• What are the testing scenarios for background services?

• Determination of the types of services which could be tested in a model network in accordance with Rec. Q.3900 in preparation for use in a public telecommunication network.
• Determination of the model network architecture for NGN services testing.
• Development of the program and methodology of testing basic call service in a model network based on Rec. Q.3900 in preparation for use in a public telecommunication network.
• Development of the program and methodology of testing interactive services in a model network based on Rec. Q.3900 in preparation for use in a public telecommunication network.
• Development of the program and methodology for testing streaming services in a model network based on Rec. Q.3900 in preparation for use in a public telecommunication network.
• Development of the program and methodology for testing background services in a model network based on Rec. Q.3900 in preparation for use in a public telecommunication network.
