Executive summary of the Working Party 3/5 meeting
(Geneva, 19-22 January 2010)

1. Statistics

2. Results related to Recommendations and other publications

No texts were consented or agreed.

LC comments were resolved for L.1000 (ex. L.adapter) and its AR text was prepared.

Initial drafts were produced for Recommendations on “Methodology for environmental impact assessment of ICT goods and services”, “Methodology for environmental impact assessment of ICT projects” and “Characterizations and specifications of power feeding system”.

3. JCA on ICT&CC

The second meeting of JCA on ICT&CC was held on 21 January 2010 under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ahmed Zeddam (Convener) and Mr. Dave Faulkner (Co-convener). The meeting was face to face but some delegates participated remotely (Conference call and GoToMeeting were organized). The meeting received inputs from other organizations such as Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), Earth Project of FP7 of EC, ETSI Equipment Engineering (EE), Digital Europe and IEC TC100 as well as JCA Representative inputs on ITU-T SG13, SG15, ISO/IEC JTC1, UNFCCC and OECD. The report of the meeting will be posted on the web page of the JCA. The next meeting of the JCA will be organised as a conf call in June 2010.

4. Special task group "Codes of conduct"

With regard to the way that ITU-T/SG5/WP3 will accommodate the codes of conduct related to "Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment" and "Data Centre Energy Efficiency", it was agreed to establish a special task group that will organize audio and video conferences (e-meetings) in order to recommend what kind of deliverables will be produced by SG5 (e.g. Handbook or/and Recommendations). It will also discuss how to handle Contributions on IEEE 1680 and WEEE. This Special task group will report final proposals at the next WP3 meeting in Buenos Aires. Mr. David Falkner and Mr. Paolo Gemma were appointed as co-conveners. WP3 mailing list will be used for any announcement. Delegates interested in this activity should register on the mailing list.

5. Future meeting

5.1 Q18/5 on Methodology of environmental impact assessment of ICT

It was agreed to produce a "generic" Recommendation L- methodology umbrella on overview and general principles prior to the development of the following " basic" recommendations :

  • L-methodology_ICT_ goods and services
  • L-methodology_ICT_projects
  • L-methodology_ICT in organisations
  • L-methodology_ICT sector in countries
To progress the Q18/5 work, an e-rapporteur meeting was proposed to be held on 8 and 9 March 2010, 12:00 – 14:00 Geneva time. Delegates were encouraged to subscribe to the Q18/5 mailing list.

5.2 Next meeting of Study Group 5

The next meeting of Study Group 5 will be held from 12 – 16 April 2010 in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

A 4-day interim rapporteur meeting (or WP3/5 meeting) was proposed to be held in Italy in September 2010. This proposal will be discussed at the next meeting of SG5.
