An online version of the ITU-T A.1 (11/2012) Annex A justification form for proposal of new work items aiming at becoming Recommendations is now available for testing from the ITU-T Study Groups web pages.

Once the proposal of a new work item is discussed and favorably reviewed at a meeting of the relevant Question, the Rapporteur or proposed editor can use the new online form to facilitate future entry of the new data into the work programme, and to allow easy extraction and formatting of the information (as a WinWord file) for inclusion in the respective meeting report.

The information will be displayed on the public ITU-T work programme webpages once there is agreement at the respective parent group to start development of the new work item, and data consistency check by TSB.

Access to information about Interim, Rapporteur meetings and e-Meetings of ITU-T study groups and TSAG is enhanced as of today, making it easier for delegates to find and participate in the most relevant ITU-T activities:

  • Browse meetings of all groups simultaneously in the ITU events calendar
  • View a specific study group's Interim Meetings (by following the link on the SG homepage under Other Meetings)
  • Access detailed meeting information for a selected event
  • Download a meeting notification letter to support participation

The new page has two views: concise and extended. The concise view (default) summarizes the latest meeting information for events planned between major study-group or TSAG meetings. Hovering the mouse over a Question's ID shows the objectives planned for that Question. Clicking on the ID opens a new page showing the full details for planning your attendance to the meeting. The extended view is accessible with a single click at the top of the page, and provides extended information for all meetings on a single page.

TSB is launching a new online system for questionnaires. The first such questionnaires have now been posted for Study Group 3’s Latin America and Carribean (LAC) Regional Group: please see e.g.  https://www.itu.int/en/ITU-T/studygroups/2013-2016/03/sg3rglac/Pages/questionnaires/sg3lac-costmodels.aspx.

The corresponding Circular will be issued next week.

The advantages of this system include the following:

  • Security: Delegate responses are TIES protected and processed by ITU.
  • Ease of use: Access to questionnaires is through the Study Group website.
  • Question variety: Multiple choice, true/false, open-ended, mandatory/non-mandatory
  • Rapid processing and functionality: Real-time results, custom reports, individual response, and visually pleasant graphics

To access the questionnaires (that may be cited in a TSB Circular), delegates can simply enter their TIES username (username@ties.itu.int) and password.  They can follow the numbered questions and indicate their choices by clicking on them or by providing text in the case of open-ended questions.  A progress bar indicates how far along they are and a thank you message confirms when they have completed the questionnaire.

As part of the ITU effort to progressively move ITU tools under its single sign-on (SSO) infrastructure, members will now use SSO to submit AAP comments through the AAP website.
SSO enables a smoother user experience since services federated under the SSO infrastructure do not require subsequent logins once logged into another service. When first logging in, users will see a new login screen.

In addition to the AAP comment submission tool, the following services already use the ITU SSO infrastructure:

  •     SharePoint sites
  •     International numbering resources databases
  •     Misuse of E.164 numbering resources
  •     ITU-T electronic registration and subscription services
  •     ITU-T WP A.5 reference submission

Other services planned for migration under the SSO infrastructure in the near future include the informal FTP areas (IFAs) and Adobe Connect remote participation services.

This coming Saturday, 22 June, the IS Department will conduct an exercise testing its disaster recovery (DR) plan for our email service.  We would like to test this plan by simulating a "disaster" and consequently activating the DR plan.  The exercise will allow us to verify the effectiveness of the DR plan. We will test roles and responsibilities, recover data, restore email service at a secondary location, and restore network connectivity to a new service.

The exercise will start on 22 June at 09:00 and should be finished by 18:00. During this time, there will be limited access to the email service for ITU staff, first at around 09:00 for 3 hours and again at around 15:00 for about another 3 hours, so 9:00 to 12:00 and 15:00 to 18:00.  Access interruption will be experienced from Outlook client, Outlook Web Access, BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad, Android devices, etc.

It is important to note that no email will be lost. It is only staff access to the email service that will be interrupted.  The service will continue to receive emails, so any email sent by external contacts will be delivered to the respective ITU mailboxes and can be viewed as soon as access is restored.

If you have any questions, please contact the ITU Service Desk at ServiceDesk@itu.int.

While ITU is able to provision electronic facilities for remote participation in meetings, please be informed that due to staff cuts in support staff TSB no longer will be able to assist in starting and conducting such remote sessions when meetings are held outside ITU headquarters.

Rapporteurs would therefore need to rely on a person local at the meeting to start and manage the remote participation session. TSB will provide to the Rapporteur-designated person the details of a Gotomeeting account that has the necessary admin rights to perform those two tasks. Delegates may want to take a look at the support articles and training videos available online at http://support.citrixonline.com/GoToMeeting/.

It should be noted that ITU will continue to provide staff support during sessions with remote participation for meetings taking place in ITU HQs, when they are booked with three weeks in advance.

As before, requests for setting up remote meeting participation facilities should be sent to the applicable group secretariat.

TSB is pleased to launch a new interface for subscriptions to mailing lists and the informal FTP areas (IFAs).

The new interface is simpler and more intuitive to use. It allows users to subscribe automatically or request subscription to reserved services.   See below some bullets with other details.

Major Improvements

  • User-friendly interface: It shows complete details of the service, allows quick subscription through direct access to a group containing the different services, and provides current status of any subscriptions pending approval.
  • Enhanced visibility of services: Every user (TIES and Guest) will be allowed to see the entire ITU service catalog and to subscribe automatically to open services or request subscriptions to restricted or previously hidden services.

The new interface is accessible at http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/services/.

We invite you to try the new subscription interface and to provide feedback to tsbewm@itu.int before the end field trial phase on 30 April 2013.

Please note that two new features have been added  in the Work Programme website:

1- User friendly parameters in the WP search page URL

Available since the 7th of January.

Four parameters in the www.itu.int/workprog/ site have been defined in order to enable a quick and intuitive access to the WP items.

   • Why such an update?

      – To enhance the search ability of the WP items

   • How?

      – By simply using query parameters in the url :

Friendly query parameter

Expected value

sp

Study Period number

sg

Study group number

wp

Full or partial Working Party number

q

Full or partial question number

   • Sample

And those can be directly accessed using the following WP short URL :

2- New friendly name for a LS coming from outside ITU

Available since the 16th of January, and this is applied only to the newly registered LSs.

This update concerns only LS where the source of the document was registered.

   • Why such an update?

   – To avoid multiplication of numbering,
   – To keep track of the indicated source document reference

   • How?

   – By using the reference as friendly name,
   – If no reference is indicated, auto numbering is still used.

   • Sample for a LS coming from 3GPP TSG SA

   – If no reference was given, no change: “3GPP TSG SA - LS 14”
   – If “TD SP-120448” was indicated as reference: “3GPP TSG SA - TD SP-120448”
