BDT’s Major Activities Related to Action Line C2


Paragraph 9 of the Geneva Plan of Action defines specific actions to be implemented under Action Line C2 and highlights infrastructure as being central in achieving the goal of digital inclusion, enabling universal, sustainable, ubiquitous and affordable access to ICTs by all. Based on this, the Geneva Plan of Action urges ITU to provide technical, regulatory and operational studies for the development and strengthening of national, regional and international broadband network infrastructure.

BDT’s Role as the Implementer

The activities of the BDT, as the implementer of the WSIS Action Line C2, consist of 3 major pillars that include :

Activities performed through regular programs

  • Around 80 activities carried out in 2009 relevant to the Action Line C2
  • Details are provided in the Report on Implementation of the DAP

Activities performed through projects

  • Large-scale projects developed with multiple stakeholders, both public and private
  • Some examples are mentioned relative to the their theme in C2

Activities performed through new initiatives

  • Wireless Broadband Initiative
  • Connecting Villages Initiative
  • Connect a School - Connect a Community
