Connecting rural communities to ICT
Over
40% of the world’s population lives in rural and remote areas of
developing countries and have difficult or no access to even basic
telecommunications services. Development of telecommunications in
rural and remote areas, therefore forms an important mission of the
ITU Development sector. This site is meant to allow all
stakeholders to the fulfilment
of this mission to join efforts with
BDT .
Individuals,
researchers, NGOs, corporations, government bodies are invited to
share their experience by contributing to the case
library. The
case library contains reports on initiatives to develop and
implement rural applications and making best use of technology
innovations.
Pilot projects
are projects sponsored by BDT, in collaboration with partners to
demonstrate the feasibility of
applications aimed at meeting the need of
rural communities. BDT
is interested in
partnering with international organisations, NGOs, suppliers and
rural communities. To explore partnership opportunities, please

In
cooperation with leading experts in the field, the ITU is working to
produce a handbook outlining theoretical and practical expertise
related to renewable energy solutions for small scale ICT
development. If you wish to participate please contact renewable-energy@itu.int
