WORKSHOP ON INTERCONNECTION AND NEXT GENERATION NETWORKS:
ADDRESSING THE REGULATORY CHALLENGES

11 September 2006, Buenos Aires, Argentina

This workshop will look at the status of Next Generation Networks (NGN) deployment in the region and the associated challenges to regulatory and policy frameworks. It will focus, in particular, on:

  • interconnection aspects

  • what arrangements make sense in an NGN world; and will provide

  • a unique opportunity to develop a common understanding to these current issues.

The event will take place just prior to the meeting of CITEL’s Permanent Consultative Committee I (PCC.I): Telecommunications, to be held also in Buenos Aires, from 12 to 15 September 2006, whose activities encompass coordination of standards for telecommunication networks and services, policy and regulatory considerations, economic and development aspects, and initiatives for the introduction of technologies and services.

To enrich the discussions, we encourage participants to make a short presentation on their country/organization activities in the area of NGN addressing a subject included in the draft programme (see below). Only a limited number of presentations can be accommodate. Participants interested in doing should send an e-mail indicating the specific topic to Mrs. Ana Jamily (ana.veneroso@itu.int) no later than 25 August 2006

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided throughout the workshop in English and Spanish.

In the spirit of efficiency, the meeting will be a paperless event and documents posted on the Web will be accessible through a wireless network. The documents, as well as general information regarding hotels, the venue of the meeting and other necessary information, will be posted on these pages.

The workshop is organized by the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, together with the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) and in close collaboration with Secretaría de Comunicaciones del Ministerio de Planificación Federal, Inversión Pública y Servicios de la República Argentina.
