Project on the digital broadcasting transition roadmap in Asia-Pacific

The objective of the project is to assist the Asia and Pacific countries in making their own roadmaps, to shift smoothly from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) and the introduction of mobile TV (MTV) as a part of ITU/BDT activities on the implementation of regional initiatives projects approved by the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2010.

The expected outputs of this project are: Policy and regulatory framework for DTTB including MTV through adaptation of comprehensive guideline developed by ITU/BDT for the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting; digital broadcasting Master Plan for transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting including Mobile TV for selected countries; enhanced skills of concerned experts on the digital broadcasting Master Plan for the transition and technologies including interactive multimedia services and IPTV; appropriate mechanisms for conversion from analogue to digital archives.

In the framework of the regional initiatives for Asia and Pacific, ITU/BDT has been implementing “Digital Broadcasting Roadmap project in Asia and Pacific” that consists of two phases. The first phase was devoted for carrying out feasibility study within Asia and Pacific region aiming to collect relevant information on current status of Television broadcasting as well as Broadcasters in Asia and Pacific programs in shifting from analogue to DTTB and MTV.  The second phase of the project has been devoted for the development of guidelines customized for Asia and Pacific region and roadmaps for transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting and the introduction of mobile TV for the selected countries and deployment of the pilot systems.
