There is un-met
demand for employees in the ICT sector. Despite the career opportunities,
not enough young women and girls are entering the ICT sector. ITU encourages
educational institutions and public and private sector ICT entities to organize
“Girls in ICT Days” on the fourth Thursday of each April to empower girls and
young women to take up a career in ICT. In line with ITU Plenipotentiary
Conference Resolution 70 (Guadalajara, 2010), ITU and UN Women launched WITNET,
the Global Network of Women ICT Decision Makers, during the 55th Commission on
the Status of Women in February 2011. WITNET has developed an online Toolkit to
promote Girls in ICT Days.
