Wireless Broadband Network in Africa CALL-01 | Brief Description: The project “Wireless Broadband Network in Africa” aims at providing low cost digital access for schools and hospitals, and for underserved populations in rural and remote areas in the selected African countries by development and implementation of wireless broadband connectivity and ICT applications. | ||||||||||||||
Beneficiary Countries: ICT Policies, Legislative and Regulatory Harmonization in Sub-Saharan Africa Brief Description: The project ”ICT Policies, Legislative and Regulatory Harmonization in Sub-Saharan Africa” aims at building on the platform and dynamism created in the region by the ITU-EC “Support for Harmonization of the ICT Policies in Sub-Saharan Africa” (HIPSSA) project. It will support further the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs)/Regional Organizations (ROs) and respective countries of Sub-Saharan Africa to develop and promote use of harmonized ICT policies and regulatory guidelines for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) market in the region as well as building human and institutional capacity in the field of ICTs through a range of knowledge transfer measures. Beneficiary Countries: Institutional support on the ICT dispute settlement mechanisms in Sub-Saharan Africa Brief Description: Over the last two decades, most of the Governments of Sub-Saharan Africa have embarked on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) policy and regulatory reforms recognizing the need to create better conditions to properly deal with the new issues brought by convergence in the ICT sector. Beneficiary Countries: Support for transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in Sub-Saharan Africa Brief Description: The project “Support for transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in Sub-Saharan Africa” is designed to assist African countries among the ACP Group of States in smoothly transitioning from analogue to digital broadcasting through the development and promotion of harmonized guidelines (policy and regulatory, economic, market and business development, and technologies and networks issues), the development of roadmaps for this transition and the development of a toolkit for broadcasting policies and regulations, as well as through human and institutional capacity building. Beneficiary Countries: Digital Inclusion Project for Sub-Sahara Africa Brief Description: The Digital Inclusion project for Africa is an initiative which seeks to deliver a number of e-services by taking advantage of new technologies which are more cost effective and easy to deploy. The project seeks to enable participating countries in Sub-Sahara Africa to scale up new and on-going Multi Purpose Community Telecentres/ICT (MCT/ICT) projects by taking advantage of cloud based technologies to connect schools and communities in rural Africa. The broad objective of the project is to put in place a pragmatic and scalable digital inclusion platform based on Cloud computing in order to significantly increase the current low Internet penetration rate of Sub-Sahara Africa from an average of approximately 13 % to 20%. The project will localize and deploy a Digital platform which could provide free-of-charge social services such as e-Education, e-Government, e-Skills and e-Health) as well as minimal chargeable e-Commerce services (such as e-Payment and e-Microcredit) customized in local languages and cultures. Beneficiary Countries: Mise en place de Départements TIC et renforcement du réseau de Centres d'excellence pour l'Afrique Brief Description: Ce projet s'inscrit dans le cadre des initiatives régionales pour le renforcement des capacités humaines et Institutionnelles des Centres de formation P&T existant d’une part et des centres d'excellence pour l'Afrique francophone et anglophone d’autre part pour la période 2010-2013.
