Digital Inclusion Project for Sub-Sahara Africa

Project No CALL-20
Title Digital Inclusion Project for Sub-Sahara Africa
Description The Digital Inclusion project for Africa is an initiative which seeks to deliver a number of e-services by taking advantage of new technologies which are more cost effective and easy to deploy. The project seeks to enable participating countries in Sub-Sahara Africa to scale up new and on-going Multi Purpose Community Telecentres/ICT (MCT/ICT) projects by taking advantage of cloud based technologies to connect schools and communities in rural Africa. The broad objective of the project is to put in place a pragmatic and scalable digital inclusion platform based on Cloud computing in order to significantly increase the current low Internet penetration rate of Sub-Sahara Africa from an average of approximately 13 % to 20%. The project will localize and deploy a Digital platform which could provide free-of-charge social services such as e-Education, e-Government, e-Skills and e-Health) as well as minimal chargeable e-Commerce services (such as e-Payment and e-Microcredit) customized in local languages and cultures.
