Mr. W. Hord Tipton is Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the U.S. Department of the Interior. He left government January 3, 2007, to become President and CEO of Ironman Technologies.
Mr. Tipton led the development of Interior's first Enterprise Architecture, now recognized for the second consecutive year as the best practice in government. As Chief Information Officer for Interior, he established sound IT Security policy and guidelines and developed the first IT Security Architecture in government. He is well known internationally through numerous keynote addresses presented abroad.
Mr. Tipton previously served in a number of business areas prior to entering the IT world full time as a CIO. He was stationed in several states outside the Beltway, responsible for numerous diversified land management programs. In addition, Mr. Tipton has 13 years engineering experience with Union Carbide and Swift Chemical Corporations.
As President of Ironman Technologies he currently offers a lifetime of experience and successes to the public and private sectors for improvement of business practices in the Information Technology world.
He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), an Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP), a Certification and Accreditation Professional (CAP), and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). He also holds a certificate in Systems Administration through the Committee of National Security Systems (CNSS) (NSTISSI No. 4013). Mr. Tipton is the only IT professional holding this unique set of highly sought after credentials.
Mr. Tipton currently serves as a Board member for the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC), and chairs the Ethics Committee for (ISC),.
In 2004, he received the Distinguished Rank Award from the President of the United States; the highest lifetime award attainable for a federal civil servant.
