The Southern Africa telecentre Network (SATNET) Southern Africa Telecentre Network is a regional civil society organization whose objective is to facilitate increased access and usage of ICTs to improve the quality of life for people in southern African region. Key to achievement of this objective is support to development of community based telecentres as avenues by local communities to access social and economic services and information resources. Among others SATNET is involved in providing capacities for development of national telecentre (ICT) networks as platforms for information exchange and knowledge sharing. SATNET was established in June 2008 by ICT development practitioners from Southern African region after the Telecentre Africa international Conference. With existing challenges such as inadequate rural ICT infrastructure, awareness, lack of and high cost of access to internet communications, majority rural communities continue to be marginalized. SATNET works with partners to identify innovative solutions to resolve these challenges to achieve key universal access goals. SATNET collaborates with various regional organizations and governments to monitor and evaluate ICT policy implementation strategies.
