Datuk Umar Bin Haji Abu served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Malaysia until 1998. Datuk. Bin Haji Abu had an illustrious career in the civil service and held various senior positions, including being the first Mayor of Ipoh from 1988 to 1993. He has been Chairman and Independent Director of Measat Global Bhd ( formerly Malaysian Tobacco Company Berhad) since August 25, 1998. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from the University of Malaya and a Diploma in Development Administration from the University of Birmingham, UK.
