Syriatel controls 55% of the local mobile telecommunication services market and has the largest subscriber base in Syria, as well as 272 international roaming partners in 123 countries. Its network covers 99% of the populated areas. In 2008 Syriatel launched a Broadband Internet access service under the name "Surf".
