La empresa GETESA fue creada aproximada mente en el año 1987 , bajo una resolución de la Presidencia de la Republica crearon la empresa GETESA después de que el Presidente celebro su primera cumbre de la UDEAC. Primeramente el nombre UDEAC, era el primer nombre que se puso para los países del África central, cuando se celebro este gran evento en Guinea. En el aspecto de las comunicaciones durante dicho evento (UDEAC), el Estado no disponía de medios suficiente para poder abastecer la comunicación en todo el en ámbito nacional, de ello hizo un acuerdo con una empresa francesa de nombre France Cable Radio (FCR), para aumentar la capacidad de telecomunicación. Una vez que se termino dicha cumbre de la UDEAC que se celebro en Guinea Ecuatorial, el gobierno decidió firmar un acuerdo con FCR (France Cable Radio) para crear una empresa con participación del estado de un 60%, pero en aquellos momentos (1987-1988) el Gobierno de Guinea Ecuatorial no disponía de capacidad tanto en recursos, ni técnicos para llevar las dirección general de dicha empresa mixta razón por la cual la dirección general de la nueva empresa se cedía al socio minoritario France cable de radio durante 24 años.
