GEW Technologies (Pty) Ltd.

GEW Technologies (Pty) Ltd., a system engineering company that came into being in 1968, has since grown into a worldwide supplier of sophisticated Communication Intelligence, Spectrum Monitoring Systems and Security products. The company's business is to conceptualise, specify, develop, implement and support systems for Government institutions, Spectrum Management authorities and National Defence Forces.

GEW SpecMon (www.gewspecmon.co.za) is a business unit within Grintek Ewation (Pty) Ltd and focuses on ITU spectrum monitoring solutions. Spectrum monitoring systems and products manufactured by Grintek Ewation are in service with the Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA). Country-wide Monitoring and Direction Finding systems are also integrated to spectrum management systems.

JandJ Group

The JandJ Group was founded by Jay Naidoo and Jayendra Naidoo in February 2000. The company initially started several green-field joint ventures, which have evolved into mid-size profitable companies, through a combination organic growth, mergers and acquisitions. The Company is a BBBEE company under the dti’s Code of Good Practice on Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment. Directly, and through associated companies, the J&J Group has also made contributions to many social projects, through the J&J Group Development Trust.

LINK Centre, University of the Witwatersrand

The LINK Centre at the Faulty of Humanities, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, is the premier public interest research and teaching centre on ICT policy and regulation in Southern Africa, and has been in operation since 1999. It has conducted research on ICT policy, regulation and infrastructure; on e-development, e-governance, broadband policy; universal access and service, regulating for consumer protection; fair access to Internet; the performance of the ICT sector; household and SME ICT access and usage (see http://link.wits.ac.za for more detail). It offers a Master of Arts in ICT Policy and Regulation, a Certificate in Telecomms Policy, Regulation and Management, and a Certificate in CIO Practice. LINK is associated with a local and international network of high calibre academics with many years of experience.

Mobile Telephone Networks (Pty) Ltd. (MTN)

Mobile Telephone Networks (Pty) Ltd. (MTN) is a leading provider of communication services, offering cellular network access and business solutions. The MTN Group is listed in South Africa on the JSE under the Industrial – Telecommunications sector. Sentech Ltd.

Sentech Ltd. is a State Owned Enterprise (SOE) operating in the broadcasting signal distribution and telecommunications sectors and reporting to the Minister of Communications. Sentech began as a technical division of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (“SABC”) responsible for signal distribution services of the Corporation. In 1992, the SABC corporatized the division as Sentech, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Corporation. In 1996, the was amended, converting Sentech into a separate public company responsible for providing broadcasting signal distribution services as a ‘common carrier’ to licensed television and radio broadcasters. In 2002, following the de-regulation of the Telecommunications sector, Sentech was awarded two additional licences allowing the Company to provide international voice-based telecommunications and multimedia services.

Telkom SA Ltd.

Telkom SA Ltd.,is Africa's largest integrated communications company, providing integrated communications solutions to an entire range of customers. Telkom is a wireline and wireless telecommunications provider in South Africa, and operating in more than 38 countries throughout the African continent. Telkom is a semi-privatized, 39% state-owned company. After modernizing the network, Telkom opened a Network Operations Centre and also offers the internet services, managed data networking, data hosting, IT security and virtual private network services.
