UGANDA COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION

Provision of Communication services in Uganda


There are basically two types of licences offered by the Commission;
  1. Major Licence
  2. Minor Licence

Major Licence Services

  1. Basic Telephony Services including Local, National and International Telephony Services
  2. Cellullar Telecommunication Services
  3. Trunk Capacity Resale Services, including the provision of Leased lines and Circuits
  4. Satellite Telecommunications Services, and
  5. Third Party Private Network Services.

Minor Licence Services

  1. Paging Services
  2. Store and Forward Messaging Services
  3. Telex Services
  4. Telegraphic Services
  5. Value-Added Services
  6. Sale, Lease and Maintenance of subscriber premise wiring and terminal apparatus
  7. Private Telecommunications services.

With the current Telecommunications Reforms in place, Uganda has currently has the following operators;

  • 2 National Telephone Operators and 1 National Postal Operator
  • 2 Mobile Telephone Operators.
  • 35 Private FM Radio Stations.
  • 11 Private Television Stations.
  • 10 Courier Services Companies.

All the above, plus many more communications services have made, and are continuing to make communication in Uganda as simple as possible.
