Cuba’s state-owned monopoly fixed line and wireless operator Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba (ETECSA) has revealed that it is in the process of deploying 80 new cell sites to improve capacity and relieve network congestion. A report from local news portal Cuba Si says that the firm has carried out traffic management work in Havana and other areas due to an increase in traffic caused by the introduction of new services. New offerings include mobile e-mail, which was launched on 3 March this year under the brand name ETECSA operates a nationwide 900MHz GSM network and is expected to launch further mobile internet services in the coming months.
