Section B - Technology Requirements
NOTE: The information that is requested in this section is to be provided by the CSP after consultation with the information technology sector.
To reduce the cost of implementing an ECDC center, the solutions proposed within the framework of the ECDC Project take into consideration available ICT infrastructures and services and provide guidelines for integrating electronic commerce technologies to these infrastructures.
The objective of this requirement is to make sure that the ECDC center would be run and operated by local professionals in the
host country (where the center is set-up).
Emphasis is made on the availability of human resources in the area of information and communication technology within the
country, community or region.
It is assumed that the host country has Internet services (web and electronic mail services) and minimum telecommunication infrastructure to enable businesses to connect to the Internet (for creating online stores).
Internet Access
Provide information on the availability of Internet access. Indicate the type of access (dialup connections, leased lines,
wireless, optic fiber) and the available types of bandwidth. Also specify the coverage of the Internet services (national, main cities, or regional). Of interest is also information on the main Internet Services Providers (ISPs) in the area that provides Internet for business purpose in your country. This should include the Names, Internet addresses (URL) and any important web services accessible on the Internet. It is important that the businesses participating in this phase of the project be located in areas were Internet services are available.
Software Vendors and/or Distributors
Provide the names of any companies operating in the region or country providing software for Internet services. This should
include software for Web servers (such as Netscape, Microsoft, IBM, etc), email, News, Database and other Internet services.
Hardware vendors and/or Distributors
Indicate if there are any hardware vendors, resellers or distributors and the region. Provide the names of the types of
hardware and if there are representatives of any major vendors (e.g. Compaq, Dell, IBM, and Sun) in the area.
Operating System
Which Operating Systems are available in your region or country? This should include Operating Systems such as Windows NT, Windows 95/98, Unix (for Unix, please specify the dialect e.g. Linux, AIX, Digital Unix and Solaris).
Support Services
Provide information on the availability of hardware and software support services. This includes software and hardware
customization, installation and configuration, helpdesk and any pre/post sales support services provided to local clients.
IT Human Resource
Provide information on the availability of trained human resources (available in the region or country) in the field of information and communication technology. Indicate if there is an association of IT professionals in the country or region. Of importance is information on Web site designers, Web server administrators, Internet strategists, network administrators, system administrator,
systems analysts, security specialists/consultants, database administrators and other areas in the IT sector that could be of
assistance to setup and operate Internet-based electronic commerce services.
Electronic Commerce Providers
Provide the names of any companies in the region already providing electronic commerce services to the local business
community. This information should include the Web address and a description of the type of service (e.g. secure payment, secure transaction services, mall services). If payment services are provided, what payment options are available?
